About this site

I started Acorn Drive because I love America and fear that we are living through its dismantling. As a late GenXer, it feels unnatural not to try to say something wittier than that, more on the sarcastic/nihlistic side of things, but I'd venture that the world could use a little more earnestness. Let's try that for a while, and see where it gets us.

I'm a lawyer and former journalist. Acorn Drive is the name of the street my mom and dad grew up on in Dayton, Ohio. It's a real place. I spent innumerable hours there as a kid visiting my grandparents. I want this Acorn Drive to be a real place, too. That means no AI, no conspiracy theories, no misinformation, no disinformation, just really no funny business, if "funny business" means the kind of online sludge that is destroying society. A bit of this site's origin story can be found here.

Posts tagged as "Commentary" are, well, commentary. Posts tagged as "Memory" are generally quotes from a speech or book or other historical source meant to be a helpful guide through our present, troubled era. Posts tagged as "Ohio" are about someone or some organization trying to make Ohio a better place, because, notwithstanding its current leadership's best efforts to tank us, this state is full of people trying to do the next right thing, and I'd like to do my little part to lift them up and encourage others to be a part of the solution.

I make no money off of this site, and the opinions are all my own. If you want to subscribe, great. You'll get emails periodically when I post, and I know if there's something everyone wants, it's more email.
