Dear Dispatch:

I read with interest your September 4th article about Bernie Moreno (“Freshman Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno cements role as top Trump advocate”), hoping to find something useful regarding the accelerating madness, centered in Washington, D.C., that is overtaking this great nation of ours.

In less than a year, Ohio Sen. Bernie landed a Senate leadership job and became a key ally for the Trump administration.

I was, unfortunately, disappointed. You wonder why no one reads newspapers anymore? It’s in part because of bland he said/she said stories like this in which you are trying to thread some needle that can’t be threaded.

By failing to say that Bernie Moreno spends his days shamelessly lying in front of cameras in support of an authoritarian regime, you are not making inroads with conservatives (they will always hate you), and you are insulting the intelligence of the people who actually care about reality and the importance of good journalism.

There is, in fact, a right side and a wrong side in the current struggle for America’s soul. Bernie is on the wrong side, and it’s not a close call. You can and must do better.

Sincerely,

Chris Montgomery
